Course description

  • Access to Humanities is ideal for those who wish to study humanities based subjects at university level eg. social work, psychology, sociology, law, and history.
  • Achieving the Access Diploma is not based upon passing examinations and the course is assessed through a variety of assignments, taking the form of essays, presentations and reports.
  • The course benefits from a range of interesting topic areas taught by well qualified, supportive and enthusiastic staff. In addition to these, separate lessons are timetabled to build the key skills of communication, numeracy and ICT up to the required standard for university entry.

Course content

Access courses are aimed at mature students wishing to prepare for higher education. They offer a second chance to students without formal qualifications or to students wishing to change career direction. This course covers: English Literature, History, Law, Government & Politics, Psychology, Sociology, Extended Project and Key Skills in Information Technology, Communication and Numeracy

Entry requirements

No formal qualifications are required, but entry is subject to interview.

Assessment

Each module will be assessed through a combination of assignments, seminars, presentations, formal essay work and group discussion.

Future opportunities

Students who successfully complete the course would be eligible to apply for HND or Degree courses in a related subject area.
