Course description

What is the course about?

  •  Gaining knowledge of a variety of textile materials through practical and theoretical tasks.
  •  An understanding of the fashion business and industrial and commercial practices within the area of design and market influences on design in textiles.
  •  Developing designing and making skills through production of individual and creative products.

What kind of students is this course suitable for?

Students need to have an interest in textiles, fabrics and fashion as well as an appreciation of design and the Arts. They should have a creative flair and motivation to explore a wide variety of new fabrics and techniques and a willingness to develop and learn both independently and as part of a group.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements are a grade B at GCSE Textiles or related subjects, e.g. Art or Graphics.

Future opportunities

The textiles industry is one of the largest employers in the UK. There are many career opportunities e.g. buying/merchandising, marketing, garment and fabric technology, fashion/textile design. If taken to degree or higher education level, there are many courses to choose from such as different types of Fashion/Textile courses, Fashion Management and Buying, Fashion Marketing and Business Studies.
