History at Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi

Course description

Students are encouraged to develop their understanding of 19th century British and European history in order to improve their understanding of the world today. Also the course develops their understanding of historical terms and concepts, assess the importance of historical persons, events and historical matters as well as an understanding of how the past is interpreted. The course includes a period study of Aspects of Welsh and English History, 1780-1886 and a detailed study of Nazi Germany c. 1933-45. The course begins with an immersion pack which helps students develop skills in answering evidential questions, both in structured and in essay forms. The main emphasis will be to develop analytical skills as well as other key skills. The course is presented in a style which promotes discussion while written work takes the form of note-taking and learning how to answer various types of exam question. There will be opportunities to work in groups and present findings to the class through IT etc. Year 13 coursework will be a detailed study.
