Engineering Foundation Learning Tier at Coleg y Cymoedd

Course description

This course is a foundation qualification consisting of a mix of entry level units and level 1 units aimed at providing progression to college mainstream qualifications at levels 1 and 2.

To prepare you for the next step in your education, strong emphasis is placed on developing your literacy and numeracy skills. The course will also focus on employment preparation skills.

Course content

You will study 2 units: Electrical installation, and Mechanical engineering processes that focus on developing your practical skills.

You will also study a pre GCSE or GCSE qualification as well as Essential Skills Wales qualifications in Communications and Application of Number. A Work-skills qualification will teach you the best way to search for a job, apply for a job and to prepare for an interview.

Entry requirements

No formal academic qualifications. You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.

Assessment

Your assignments will be assessed both internally and externally.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course there are opportunities to progress onto other Engineering qualifications at the end of this course. Students will need to be successful in all aspects of their studies if they wish to progress to Level 1 or level 2 programmes in Engineering. Please speak to your Course Tutor to discuss your options and entry requirements which will include an interview and entry test.
