GCSE Dance at Queen Elizabeth School

Course description

You may want to choose this subject because you like Dance, or you are good at it and you want to gain a qualification in a subject you enjoy and can do well in.  You will probably enjoy being creative, enjoy taking part in dance performances, enjoy watching and learning about the work of professional dance companies and enjoy evaluating your work and the work of others.

 

Course content

You will study a variety of Dance styles and forms. By the end of the course you will have gained experience in:

 improvisation

 dance technique

 choreographing solo and group dances

 performing in front of audiences

 appreciating and analysing professional dance works

 evaluating your own work

Entry requirements

Some dance experience is useful but not essential

 

Future opportunities

The course is not just about being a performer, because it develops other transferable skills, which you can take into any career or job. These include: being creative, working with others, making independent decisions, self-confidence, using imagination and initiative, being physically fit and well co-ordinated, being able to take criticism, working under tension or pressure, adjusting to changes in the working environment, following instructions and working to deadlines.
