Business and Retail RSW Diploma Level 1 at Boston College

Course description

This course combines a basic introduction to business and retail with work experience. You will study many areas of business and retail including: working in business administration, job opportunities in business, welcoming visitors, making and receiving calls, working as a part of a group, maintain health and safety of self and others in the workplace, plan and participate in an event, career progression, understanding business of retail, communicating electronically and preparation to work. 

This course will introduce you to basic business administration and retail principles, including how to behave in an office environment and how to use office equipment.

Course content

You will study the Level 1 BTEC Diploma in Vocational studies. You may also have the opportunity to visit local and regional businesses to observe and gain experience in the industry. Also guest speakers from business and retail industry may also come and speak to you to enhance your vision.  

You will be encouraged to develop your employability skills including time management, communication skills, research skills and teamwork. 

As a part of the course you will gain a valuable work experience which will be arranged by the College. 

You will also work towards a variety of other qualifications including personal and social development and functional skills (English, Maths and ICT).

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry qualifications for this course.

Assessment

This course is a combination of both practical and theory so you will learn and be assessed by completing either practical or scenario based activities and by writing assignments. 

Some assessments include: functional Skills exams, production of a portfolio (written, videoed, audio recorded), case studies, and role play. 

Financial information

You may require a DBS.

Future opportunities

The course will give you the equivalent of 4 GCSEs at D-G grade. 

This would give you the opportunity to progress to other courses within the college at Level 1 or 2, an apprenticeship or employment.
