Barbering Intermediate Apprenticeship at West Herts College
The demand for skilled barbers specialising in cutting and styling men's hair is on the rise. On this apprenticeship, you’ll learn how to give client consultations, cut hair, trim and shape facial hair and shampoo and condition hair and scalp. You could also choose to learn how to colour hair or cut basic patterns in hair.
This apprenticeship is for those interested in progressing and building experience in cutting and styling the hair of men and boys. You’ll also learn about other issues related to barbering, like hygiene, disposing of chemicals and working in a team.
Examples of subject areas include:
Advise and consult with clients Shampoo, condition hair and scalp Cut hair using basic barbering techniques Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques Create basic patterns in hair Promote additional services or products to clients
The qualification is achieved by gaining practical experience in the work place and gathering evidence into an online portfolio to demonstrate your competence. Necessary theory, underpinning knowledge and support will be given in the work place with students being required to attend College workshops sessions to pass written tests. You will also be required to achieve funcitonal skills at Level 2 in English, maths and ICT and complete a workbook relating to employment rights and responsibilities.
Employment at a suitable level - most employers ask for GCSEs in English and maths, but may have additional specific requirements.
Following completion of this course, you could progress to other courses such as a Level 3 Diploma in Barbering, or a Level 2 Diploma in Team Leading.
