Hairdressing BTEC Level 2 (Certificate or Diploma) at Tyne Metropolitan College

Course description

The course for you if ...

You have an interest in Hairdressing and would love to progress further by learning specialist techniques and salon technologies.

Course content

You will be trained in specialist cutting techniques, salon duties, perming and colouring.

You will perfect these skills in a practical environment and have the opportunity to work on real clients in our Retreat Hair & Beauty Salons and training salons, which will enable you to show off your talents and begin building up a client base.

Entry requirements

Level 2 Certificate:
A minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above, or equivalent. You may be able to progress from a Level 1 Hairdressing qualification.

Level 2 Diploma:
A minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above, or equivalent. Must have Maths and English GCSE at Grade C or above. You may be able to progress from a Level 1 Hairdressing qualification.

Assessment

Assessment is based on a combination of practical competency, graded assessments and external online tests.

Financial information

For both the Certificate and Diploma, students are required to purchase a salon uniform and kit for all Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy courses (approx. cost of kit and uniform = £155, based on 13-14 costs). Financial support may be available to help with the cost of course-specific equipment, ask the Gateway team  for more details.

Future opportunities

You can progress onto a Level 3 Hairdressing qualification or Apprenticeship. Careers include: employment in a Salon or as a self-employed Stylist.
