Economics A Level at The Green School

Course description

You will study Microeconomics, a study of individual households and firms, Macroeconomics, the study of national economic systems and Themes in Economics, drawing on both of the above to address themes.

The specification links to modern life and the world around us. We study a wide range of concepts which are applied in a variety of contexts.

Economics is relevant to the modern world and facilitates an understanding of society. You will be encouraged to develop skills as an independent learner, critical thinker and decision maker. You will learn to think as an economist and will develop the skills of analysis, evaluation and quantitative methods.

You will also develop a deep understanding of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics which are assessed in order to develop an enquiring, critical and thoughtful approach to the study of Economics

Entry requirements

At least a grade 6 in English Language and Maths

Assessment

A-Level Economics. Two-year linear course. The Examining board is OCR.

  • Unit 1 Microeconomics 2 hours (33.3%)
  • Unit 2 Macroeconomics 2 hours (33.3%)
  • Unit 3 Themes in Economics 2 hours (33.3%)

All units are 2 hour exams and carry equal weighting

Future opportunities

The skills learnt in this course will serve you at university and beyond whether studying Economics or other areas.

Economics complements History, Geography or Languages or can be taken as a third A-Level for those wishing to balance a Science or Humanities curriculum with a Social Science.

You may wish to go on to study Economics at university. If so you will also need to choose Maths A-Level. Economics is highly valued by universities and employers for its analytical content and useful knowledge base. Economics graduates typically go on to work in banking, accountancy and taxation.
