Performing Arts - BTEC Level 3 at Ashton Community Science College

Course description

The Performing Arts Faculty at Ashton has an excellent record of achievement and was classified as ‘Outstanding’ at the last OFSTED inspection. Our highly experienced teachers will develop your skills and creative talents, enhance your confidence and teach you how to present an innovating performance. You will have the opportunity to develop your interests through participating in school productions, taking leading parts either on or off stage. We will carefully guide you through an exciting world of musical theatre and provide you with first class training in preparation for the next step in your career.

Course content

This course consists of a combination of mandatory and optional units each with a 10 credit value. For the Diploma you must complete the four mandatory units plus nine optional units to give a total of 120 credits. This course is designed to develop skills in all aspects of Musical Theatre. Students will attend classes in the three performance areas of Drama, Music and Dance. A broad range of techniques and practices are developed.

Entry requirements

Level 2 qualification/GCSE in relevant subject at Grade C+. Level 2 English and Maths preferable. Reference and Interview. It is highly desirable to have relevant performance experience or qualifications in one of the three art forms, Dance, Drama or Music.

Future opportunities

The BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre) will develop your education and training in a diverse range of performance arts. The qualification will give you an insight into the different career paths that are available to you in the performing arts world. If you decide to go straight into employment there are a wide variety of prospective careers that you can explore, for example: dancer, entertainer, TV presenter, movement therapist, administration. The BTEC Level 3 qualification can lead to further study in Higher Education at degree or HND level.
