D&T Product Design at Wade Deacon High School

Course content

This course introduces you to strategies for developing modelling, designing and communication skills. You will learn many new design skills and will have the opportunity to work on a major project to demonstrate your expertise. You will work with a wide range of materials with different properties and characteristics, tools and equipment and will also work as individuals, with partners and in small teams.You will have experienced all of the following areas by the end of the course:Sketching and presentation techniquesWorking with a wide range of suitable materials3 Dimensional CAD/CAMGraphics and design skillsStudy into a well known Architect or Product DesignerThe main purpose of this course is to teach you to be creative and to recognise current designed items and advancements, whilst becoming informed users of technological products. You are challenged to explore the possibilities in aesthetics and form. You will use these skills to create a realistic, working model or prototype of a useful product selected from a short design choice. 

Assessment

Coursework will account for 60% of your final marks, i.e. Designing 20%, Making 40% and a final written examination will account for a further 40%.
