ENGLISH LITERATURE - AS Level GCE (WJEC) at Millbrook Academy

Course description

Level 3

The WJEC course continues to flourish with our best ever AS results in August. We will be studying the following units:

LL1 – Critical Reading of Literary and Non-Literary Texts: in this brand new unit, students will be asked to explore a range of poetry written before 1900. WJEC will provide an anthology and students will explore this work from a literary perspective, as well as developing new knowledge and understanding of the linguistic techniques employed by the writer. The exam will ask them to apply their knowledge of some of these poems, comparing them with an unseen text. In tandem, students will discover one core prose text and one wider reading prose text from a challenging list ranging from H.G Wells to Bill Bryson.

LL2 – Creative Writing: here, students will be asked to apply their knowledge and understanding of how texts work to a coursework folder containing a piece of literary and a piece of non-literary original writing. This work will be accompanied by a commentary, written by the student, exploring their own work at a literary and linguistic level. A real opportunity for them to let their imaginations fly!
