Health and Social Care BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Shooters Hill Sixth Form College
This course is suitable for anyone interested in developing their knowledge and understanding of the health and social care field. It provides you with a route to higher education or you can use it to improve your employment opportunities in the health and social care field. Higher education opportunities include a degree in nursing, midwifery, social work, occupational therapy and many other professions. Alternatively, it can also lead to direct entry into employment within the health and social care services such as a home help, clinical support nurse, occupational assistants and so on as well as posts administered by the NHS and Social Services.
The course consists of 180 credits that are required for completion over two years. 80 of these credits will be obtained in the following core units:
Unit 1: Developing Effective Communication in Health and Social Care;
Unit 2: Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care;
Unit 3: Health, Safety and Security in Health and Social Care;
Unit 4: Development Through the Life Stages;
Unit 5: Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care;
Unit 6: Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care;
Unit 7: Sociological Perspectives for Health and Social Care;
Unit 8: Psychological Perspective for Health and Social Care.
5 GCSEs grade A* - C with a C in English Language and Maths
Students will undertake compulsory work experience (100 hours) in a range of settings. Students are encouraged to find their own work placements. To attend work experience students will need to complete a DBS form (criminal record check).
