Course description

It will enable you to focus on the dynamic nature of the contemporary business world. Provide opportunities for research into topical business issues. You will explore real business situations and be practical in the application of business concepts. You will also gain an understanding of the role of the entrepreneur and business in society.

Course content

During the course you will: Understand the challenges and issues of starting a business, including financial planning. Explore the key internal functions of business and how the management of these functions can assist in improving the effectiveness and performance of a business. 1. What is business? 2. Managers, leadership and decision making 3. Decision making to improve marketing performance 4. Decision making to improve operational performance 5. Decision making to improve financial performance 6. Decision making to improve human resource performance 7. Analysing the strategic position of a business (A-level only) 8. Choosing strategic direction (A-level only) 9. Strategic methods: how to pursue strategies (A-level only) 10. Managing strategic change (A-level only).

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade B in Business Studies or Business related topic.

Future opportunities

Business Studies covers a wide range of knowledge and skills. It is a good preparation for a wide range of degree courses including Business Studies, Marketing, Economics and Accounts. As a course which has a vocational slant, it provides an excellent preparation for immediate entry into the world of work.
