English Literature A Level at Plumstead Manor School

Course description

You will develop a critical awareness and understanding of individual works of literature, ranging from Shakespeare to Modern day texts of your choosing. You will also gain an understanding of relationships between texts and of the significance of cultural and contextual influences on readers and writers.

Course content

Students study a range of texts, Poetry, Drama and Prose. Teachers teach to their level of expertisem, using their enthusiasm and insight to help students achieve. We offer a range of trips to theatres, museums and galleries to extend students' cultural capital and give them a wider knowledge of social, historical and cultural context. We forge links with Drama and Media to give students a rounded and varied programme of study.

Shelby Allen-Ankers was a Plumstead Manor School student from Year 7 to 13. Shelby gained a Distinction* for BTEC Dance, and took A Level Dance in Plumstead Manor 6th Form. With a C grade, and also qualifications in BTEC Events Management, the Extended Project and A Level Geography, Shelby has just started a B.A. (Hons) in Dance at the University of Bedford.

Grace Windsor was a Plumstead Manor School student from Year 7 to 13. Grace gained a Distinction* for BTEC Dance, and took A Level Dance in Plumstead Manor 6th Form. With a B grade, and also A Levels in English Literature and History, plus AS Drama, Grace has just started a B.A. (Hons) in Dance at the University of Kingston-upon-Thames.

Ann Kaewangchai was a Plumstead Manor School student from Year 7 to 13. After gaining a Distinction* for BTEC Dance, Ann took A Level Dance in Plumstead Manor 6th Form. Gaining a C grade, and with a Distinction for Level 3 BTEC Music, and A Level Photography, Ann is in her second year at Middlesex University, studying for a B.A. (Hons) in Dance Performance.

Rae Dawson was a Plumstead Manor School student from Year 7 to 13. After gaining a Distinction* for BTEC Dance, Rae took A Level Dance in Plumstead Manor 6th Form. Gaining a C grade, and with A Levels in Drama and English Literature, she is currently studying for a B.A. (Hons) in Dance in the Community at Manchester Metropolitan University. Rae recently returned to assist in the dance session at Plumstead Manor’s Year 6 into 7 Summer School.

Sixth Form Dress Code

All students are expected to wear business dress that would be appropriate in an office or business environment. This is a privilege extended to Sixth Formers and is a recognition as a transition to adulthood and as your status as Senior Members of the school.
