This is a topic based programme of study covering contemporary issues such as:A2: The environment, The EU, politics, multicultural society/social issues, the study of a cultural topic. All skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking are regularly practised. Grammar is revised and extended; a lot of emphasis is given to accuracy in both written and spoken language. Use of foreign assistants is made to enhance speaking skills. A visit to the country is strongly recommended. Students will also need to work independently to improve and expand their knowledge of Spain and its culture.
For a successful transition from GCSE to AS/A2, a grade B or above in GCSE Spanish is desirable.
Year Two - A2 Unit 3 SPAN3 Listening, Reading and Writing : Listening Section - Candidates listen to approximately 6 minutes of material which is within their individual control. This section comprises 3-5 items requiring short target-language or non-verbal responses. Reading and Writing Section - This section comprises 2-4 items requiring short target-language or non-verbal responses, together with a task involving transfer of meaning from the target language into English and a task involving transfer of meaning from English into the target language. Writing Section - Candidates respond with one piece of writing to one question from a choice of two, based on each of the five A2 Cultural Topic areas. 70% of AS35% of A level Unit 4 SPA4T/V Speaking Test: Part 1 Discussion of a stimulus card - These will be based on three of the topics prescribed for A2, ie Environment , the Multicultural Society and Contemporary Social Issues .
