Art and Design (Digital Design) Level 3 at Northampton College

Course description

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Digital Design will introduce students to traditonal and digital design skills and their application in Graphic Design, Illustration, Fashion Design, Interior Design and Product Design. Allowing students to focus during their second year in the area of interest. Topics to be covered during the course include: - Contextual influences in digital design - Design methods - Computer applications for fashion - 3D computer applications - Computer illustration techniques - Website design - Use of digital photography in design

Course content

Students who have an art and design background and who know that they want a career in the area of digital design.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade C or above including an art subject and English Language or BTEC Level 2 Art and Design or Media at Merit level plus GCSE English Language at Grade C or above.


Portfolio/Assignment based assessment working with strict deadlines.

Future opportunities

This course is a practical way to achieve the equivalent of 3 A Levels in a vocational setting and will lead to either further study at defree or HND level (depending on achievement) or employment.

Further information

All Level 3 Art and Design students at Booth Lane are advised to purchase a starter kit of essential media and equipment in year one at a cost of approx. £90. Each year, students will be advised to pay a fee toward the materials they will use (approx £75 each year) and another approx. £65 to cover trips and visits to galleries (approx £370 over the whole course). Students aged 19-23 at the start of the course will be required to pay a BTEC registration fee of approximately £180. All fees are payable at enrolment.
