A Level Further Mathematics at Theale Green School

Course description

Further Mathematics is intended for highly motivated students who have a real flair for the subject. It is very challenging and a great deal of commitment is required for success. The course is a popular choice for those students who plan to study four A2 courses in the upper 6th. Further Mathematics provides a very good grounding for those students considering following Mathematics, physics or engineering at degree level.

The course covers the four main branches of Mathematics.

Core Mathematics: extending the GCSE work on angles, algebra, functions and graphs. Statistics: extending the probability and handling data work from GCSE. Decision Mathematics: applying algorithms to solve real life logistical problems that arise in business. Mechanics: applying Mathematics that involves studying the motion of objects and the forces that act on them. All units are equally weighted and are each assessed by a written paper of 90 minute duration.

Entry requirements
