Drama and Theatre Studies A Level at Little Heath School

Course description

Studying Drama and Theatre Studies at AS and A2 Level enables you to develop your knowledge of plays in performance. It offers plenty of opportunities for performance but this is balanced by oppor tunities to direct and analyse as well.

Throughout the course your knowledge of performance styles, practitioners and working theatre companies will improve as well as your knowledge of a range of periods in theatre history.

Course content

Text in performance: During AS and A Level there will be an opportunity to explore practically a full play and perform two extracts from the play to an examiner.

Creating original drama: We will be exploring how we can devise and create our own pieces of drama from a diven stimuli with a focus on style and theatre practitioners.

Analysing a play: The written exam component of the course will look to further your understanding of how directors, designers and actors approach a play and bring it to life.

Entry requirements

You need a minimum of five GCSE passes at Grades A* - C, including a Grade C in GCSE Drama if studied, as well as Grade C in English Language and Literature. If you have not studied GCSE drama, experience of the subject must be demonstrated. An interest in, and passion for, drama is essential.

Future opportunities

The course will equip you with a vast array of skills suitable for a range of future courses and careers.

The most obvious routes are in fields related to drama and theatre studies, English, media and film studies, journalism or other similar fields. However, a range of other courses and employees value this qualification because of the skills you acquire, particularly in terms of presentation and team work skills.
