Further Mathematics A level at Cannock Chase High School
Further Mathematics is a subject which both broadens and deepens the knowledge of the standard A Level in Mathematics.
The course is split into two years to give the AS qualification in year 12, leading onto the A2 in year 13. Further Mathematics is one of the last subjects to be reformed and students will be studying the ‘old-style’ A Level for the entirety of their course. The modules studied in both years are given below:
Year 12 (AS level)
- Decision maths 1
- Further Pure 1
- Statistics 2
Year 13 (A2 level)
- Decision maths 2
- Further Pure 2
- Mechanics 2
Grade A or A* in GCSE Maths
Further Maths cannot be opted for without doing the standard Maths A Level and is a subject which is only recommended for students who are dedicated to the subject and have achieved at least a grade A at GCSE.
If you are thinking about applying to a top university to do a degree which is Maths based, then Further Maths is an essential qualification. Many top universities will only take the best mathematicians who have gained a qualification in Further Maths as well as the standard Mathematics A Level.
