City & Guilds Catering and Hospitality Level 1 & 2 at Nacro Training

Course description

If you are interested in getting a job in the catering or hospitality industry but dont have the qualifications or experience, or you are qualified but are struggling to find a job or apprenticeship, this is the course for you.

Based in our brand new canteen learning facility, you will work towards your City and Guilds qualificaitons through practical, hands on learning in small groups. 

You will gain experience of preparing, serving and managing a busy canteen, with the opportunity to go out on a work placement and learn on the job.

This course offers you a realistic look at a range of catering and hospitality progression opportunities such as apprenticeships, employment or further learning at college.

Course content

You will towards two formal city and guilds qualifications: Level 1 & Level 2 City & Guilds Catering and Hospitality

These will give you the practical knowledge of preparing and serving food and drinks from our busy on-site canteen, which when combined with English, Maths and IT training, will make you the ideal candidate for a wide range of careers, apprenticeships or further learning at college.

You will gain experience in running the canteen, including stock ordering and management, menu planning, dietary requirements and good housekeeping, as well as having the opportunity to go out on a work placement with a real business.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. All we ask is that you give 100% whilst on the course and we will do the rest!


All assessment will be project based and assessed in the workplace. Meaning there's no exams and you can work through your qualifications at your own pace.

Assessment is designed to match a real working environment so you're able to decide whether this is the career for you before starting work.

Financial information

You may be eligible for a learning bursary of up to £40 per week, as well as other financial support.

All students received free weekly bus passes and all clothing and kit are provided free of charge.

Future opportunities

This course is designed to get you a job in the catering or hospitality industries. 

You will learn a range of skills from cookery, food hygeine and food presentation to bakery, waitering, coffee shop (barista) and customer service.

You will be supported into a career pathway of your choice by our trained progression workers.

    • Meanwood Training Centre is a workskills learning centre where young people learn the skills required to sustain a progression into work or further learning.

      We offer excellent training facilities, designed around the workplace, that challenge and engage young people to greater levels of success.

      We are currently investing in a new canteen at the site which will offer Catering and Hospitality training from the Autumn.
