Childcare and Education - Level 3 Award/Certificate/Diploma CWDC Children and Young People’s Workforce Diploma (CYPW) at Burton and South Derbyshire College
This is a Level 3 course and students who achieve the qualification are granted Early Years Practitioner status. Learners may be given the opportunity to take 1 GCSE as part of their programme, along with Functional Key Skills in Numeracy, Communications and Information Technology. Work experience placement is an integral part of the training for this course and students spend a substantial part of the course in a variety of Early Years settings for their practical training. Functional Skills are integrated in the main programme. The qualification is achieved by passing externally set marked assignments/research projects. Learners will spend 3 days in college and 2 days in placement.
• Minimum of 5 GCSE’s at grade C or better (of which one subject may be specified at grade C) including either English Language or Maths at GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent)*; or • Pass at NVQ Level 2 and either English Language or Maths at GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent); or • Pass at BTEC Diploma and either English Language or Maths at GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent). The College has the discretion to determine if 4 or 5 GCSE’s will be the entry standards for a Qualification. All Early Years and Care students will need to apply for an enhanced Criminal Record Bureau Check prior to enrolment.
Students may progress to employment in Nurseries, Schools, Family Centres, Hospitals, etc. The Diploma is accepted as an entry to related courses in Higher Education, dependant on the entry requirements of the University.
The units of the course focus on Learning Development and Support Services, Early Years and Children’s Social Care. Examples of topics include: • The Principles Underpinning the Role of the Practitioner • Working with Children • Play and Learning in Children’s Education • Supporting Children • Keeping Children Safe
