Course description

The Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship is suitable for applicants who have achieved a Level 2 Apprenticeship or qualification and wish to extend their knowledge and practical skills. It provides an advanced level of knowledge and practical skills linked to the industry, which help to produce a skilled craftsperson capable of working on various aspects of the trade with the minimum of supervision. The Apprenticeship will follow a similar pattern to that of the Level 2 but dealing with work of a more advanced and complex nature.

Course content

The NVQ Level 3 qualification is suitable for candidates who have achieved a Level 2 qualification and wish to extend their knowledge and practical skills. It provides an advanced level of knowledge and practical skills linked to the industry, which help to produce a skilled craftsperson capable of working on various aspects of the trade with the minimum of supervision. For those students wishing to progress onto into management, this course provides an excellent level of education. The course will follow a similar pattern to that of the Level 2 but dealing with work of a more advanced and complex nature and a greater emphasis on supervision roles within the construction industry. In this advanced qualification apprentices will also have to complete a Functional Skills which includes numerical skills and communication techniques.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be at least 16 years old at the start of the apprenticeship, with either 3 GCSEs at grade A*-C or have already completed a relevant NVQ/Diploma at Level 2, possibly as a Level 2 Apprentice. To enter this programme you will need to show enthusiasm, commitment and interest in the subject area and be employed in the industry.

Assessment

Students are frequently assessed in the practical environment, in the classroom environment and in industry to check progress is being made. There are a number of theoretical unit end tests, various practical models and a final practical assessment. The final theoretical test is an online test on the knowledge gained throughout the academic year. You will also be assessed within the workplace for competence within this trade area.
