Drama & Theatre Studies at Moorlands Sixth Form College

Course description

A course for creative people who would like to hone performance, text interpretation and/or design skills.  It is a great confidence builder and will improve communication and literacy.  It marries well with other humanities and arts subjects, particualarly English literature, language, media and history as well as music, textiles and art. 

 

Course content

Gerneral introduction to drama, helping to build or refresh skills and knowledge needed for the course, whether or not theatre has been studied previously. 

Component 1.  Students deveise an origianl piece of drama based on a text extract and practicioner.  Performer and designer routes are available.

Component 2. Group performance or design realisation of one key extract from a performance text and a monologue or duologue from a different performance text.

Component 3. Works towards a final wirtten examination, where the students will write a live theare evalution in section in secion A, discuss the realisation of a performance text for section B and discuss the interpretation of another perfornace text for section C.

Entry requirements

Minimum of 5 higher grades at CSE including English and maths.

Assessment

Practical exam, written work done as part of the course and examination.

Future opportunities

Degree, dramam training, performance, theatre design, film produciton, production or theatre, media, advertising, journalism, jobs involving public speaking and group motivational skills, professional wirter, actor, radio presenter, director, designer of costume, lighting, set or sound management.
