Course description

If you're thinking about a career as a plumber and would like to start developing your skills in this industry, then this Diploma in Plumbing is the perfect place to begin. You'll cover all the basics of plumbing and start building up your knowledge for success.

During the course, you'll learn about a wide variety of areas within plumbing and domestic heating, as you develop your skills and a solid working knowledge of the industry. You'll look at the basics of hot and cold water supplies and focus on sanitation as a core part of your role as a plumber. Part of the diploma will also include health and safety within building services and engineering

Course content


Dependent on your level, elements you may learn about could include:

• Safety in plumbing activities
• Key plumbing principals
• Common plumbing processes
• Cold water systems
• Domestic hot water systems
• Sanitation systems
• Central heating systems
• Electrical supply and earth continuity
• Sheet lead weathering
• Environmental awareness
• Effective working relationships

You will also learn employability skills.


The course will be assessed through portfolio, online exams and practical workshop assessments.

Financial information

All full-time courses are free to 16-18 year olds who are an EU citizen.

Future opportunities

On completion of your course you can go directly into employment or progress on to further training such as HNC, NVQs or higher level construction qualifications in supervision and management.
