CSkills Level 1 Introduction to Construction at Andover College

Course description

You will learn how to carry out basic brick and block laying skills and, with your peers, build basic masonry structures and construct straightforward brick/block walls. You will learn how to develop your hand skills; produce basic woodworking joints; as a group, contribute to the construction and fitting of wood fixtures; understand the need to carry out safe working practices in construction.

The department has two custom-built bricklaying and carpentry workshops with individual workstations for you to develop your practical skills. The Staff are fully trained to advanced craft level, and have considerable experience of working within the construction industry.

To be successful in the course you will need to have an interest in construction and be able to cope with the physical requirements of working in this industry. The course is designed to prepare you for a career in construction so you will need to show you are a good team player and be flexible to carry out other duties when required.

Entry requirements

GCSE grade E to F and a favourable report from school.Interview Required: Yes
