History A Level at St Philomena's Catholic High School for Girls

Course description

During the course students cover a range of topics and will develop sources analysis and evaluation skills, essay writing skills, the ability to construct a historical interpretations, debate and read in-depth historical material.

Entry requirements

Grade B GCSE History

GCSE English (at Grade C or above) is required

GCSE Maths (at Grade C or above) is not required

Assessment

AS Units

  • Y112: Britain 1900–1951 (Enquiry topic: England and a New Century c.1900–1918)
  • Y213: The French Revolution and the rule of Napoleon 1774–1815

A2 Units

  • Y100: Topic based essay. Learners will complete a 3,000 to 4,000 word essay on a topic of their choice.
  • Y319: Civil Rights in the USA 1865—1992
