Digital Media Level 2 at Leeds City College
If you are interested in working in the media industry, the Level 2 Digital Media course will put you on the right track.
This course can lead to university, apprenticehsips or employment opportunities in television, filmmaking, journalism, advertising or even graphic design. You will learn many different aspects of media from a practical point of view to academic theory. Work placement opportunities are available on this course.

Level 2 Creative Digital Media Production is a one-year course which gives you an opportunity to top up your GCSEs and qualify for our level 3 courses which can in turn lead to university, apprenticeships or employment opportunities in television, filmmaking, journalism, advertising or even graphic design. You will learn many different aspects of the media from a practical point of view as well as academic elements.
The course includes units such as video editing, audio editing and magazine publishing. You will also learn about the media industry and how and why audiences are attracted to different products. You will learn how to use equipment, including DSLR cameras and state of the art software as used in the media industry including Adobe Premiere to edit film, Adobe Audition to edit sound and Adobe Indesign to create magazine pages.
You will also spend a week on work experience with a local employer or in-house in the college
If you are part of the new grading system for GCSE we would see Grades 3 as the equivalent of a Grade D in this offer.
You need: 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above and should:
- Be able to communicate ideas and opinions in a spoken, written and visual context.
- Have a passion to work in the media industry.
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Be able to organise yourself and work to deadlines.
You will complete practical projects including making a film, writing and designing magazine pages, taking photos and creating sound effects. The assignments include some written reports which will contribute to your final grade.
You also take two exams. In the first, you will explore how digital media has transformed the way we consume and contribute to written, visual and aural media. For the second exam, you will develop an insight into the vibrant and dynamic companies that make up the media sector and how they create the jobs that you will want to do.
Each exam also contributes to your final grade Each unit is assessed as a Pass, Merit or Distinction and an overall final mark is then reached based on your achievements.
