IT:Level 2 at Suffolk New College

Course description

This study programme will provide you with specialist work-related qualifications in a range of areas, which will give you the knowledge, understanding and skills you will need to prepare for employment. You will learn using modern software packages, which include Microsoft Office Suite, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Visio and Camtasia. You have the opportunity to visit the Centre for Computing History. You will be offered the chance to take exciting new on-line qualifications offered by ‘Codestars’. Examples of these include, ‘The Complete Android Developer Course’, ‘The Complete Web Developer Course’ and ‘The Complete Apple Watch Developer Course’.

Course content

The study programme is made up of the following units; The Online World, Technology Systems, Digital Portfolio, Creating Digital Animations, Creating Digital Graphics, Creating Digital Video, Database Development, Website Development, Computing in the Workplace, Multimedia Products Development, Computational Thinking and Building a Personal Computer. You will be able to achieve either a ‘pass, merit or distinction’ grade in each of the units which you will study. You will be assessed using a variety of methods such as individual, paired and group work, where you will be required to submit assignments, conduct presentations and complete workbooks. Functional Skills assessments are assessed via examination. You will be expected to spend approximately 21 hours each week studying in College, which is currently spread over 3 days.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D or grade 3 or above, including English and Maths or equivalent or a Level 1 Diploma in Information Technology and Functional Skills Level 1 in English and Maths

Tuition Costs 

No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2017. For all students aged 19+ please visit our website www.suffolk.ac.uk. Details regarding fee remission and Advanced Learning Loans can also be found at the above website.

Future opportunities

Upon successful completion of this course you could choose to go into part or full time employment within either the public or private sector. The course prepares students for entry into careers such as IT Support and related administration such as data entry .If you wish to remain in education you could progress onto a Level 3 course.
