Course description

Edexcel Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Activity Leadership: Qualification structure summary – You must achieve all 25 credits from the 6 mandatory units and a minimum of 2 optional units.  Mandatory units: • Prepare for activity sessions • Lead activity sessions • Conclude and review activity sessions • Support the work of the team and organisation • Promote health, safety and welfare in active leisure and recreation • Support equality and diversity in active leisure and recreation • A selection of optional units selected by the course leader.  

Course content

Edexcel Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Activity Leadership: Qualification structure summary – You must achieve all 25 credits from the 6 mandatory units and a minimum of 2 optional units.

Mandatory units:
• Prepare for activity sessions
• Lead activity sessions
• Conclude and review activity sessions
• Support the work of the team and organisation
• Promote health, safety and welfare in active leisure and recreation
• Support equality and diversity in active leisure and recreation
• A selection of optional units selected by the course leader.

Plus:
• Functional skills in maths or English
• First 4 Sport Employment Awareness Level 2
• Award in the Principles of Coaching Sport Level 2.

Entry requirements

  • 4 GCSEs grade D or above including English
  • Strong interest in coaching and sport in general
  • Pass grade in all elements of the Sport & Active Leisure Foundation Level 1 qualification
  • Attendance to be above 90% if progressing from Level 1 to Level 2
  • Positive reference from existing college tutor/school report.

Assessment

You are assessed by a variety of methods including case studies, class-based assignments, time-constrained assessments, projects, practicals and presentations.

The overall grade for each qualification is a pass. You must achieve all the required units within the specified qualification structure. To pass a unit you must:

  • Achieve all the specified learning outcomes
  • Satisfy all the assessment criteria by providing sufficient and valid evidence for each criterion
  • Show that the evidence is your own.

Financial information

There is no need to worry about the costs of coming to college as there is lots of financial help available. Our finance and welfare officers will be able to talk to you about any help that may be available to you based on your individual circumstances.

Bursary fund

 

Students aged 16-18 attending a full-time further education course can apply to the 16-18 Bursary Fund for help with college related costs. Free BUS PASS

 

We will provide a free bus pass to help with travel costs for 16-18* year olds on full-time programmes, based on individual circumstances**. To qualify for a free bus pass***, you must live more than one mile from the campus at which you will be studying and not already be in receipt of other financial support, such as Care to Learn funding.

 

*Under 19 as at 31 August 2017.

 

**Students with learning difficulties or disabilities who are unable to access public transport may still be able to receive help – talk to our Student Finance team.

 

***Evidence of family income will need to be provided.

  • Assistant instructor
  • Outdoor recreation assistant.

Progression could be on to further training/education, including work-based qualifications in such areas as:

  • Outdoor programmes
  • Coaching
  • Sports development
  • BTEC Diploma - various pathways available.

For progression on to another full-time programme at Level 3, the following would be required:

  • A positive yearly report from your course tutor
  • A clean disciplinary record; 90% attendance record
  • Completion of all elements of this course, including functional skills.
