Level 3 Extended Certificate Production Arts: Stage Management at Leeds West Academy

Course description

This hands-on course is designed for students interested in all aspects of technical stagecraft for theatre. From stage lighting and special effects to sound and set construction, students will work in practical backstage roles, gaining real world experience as part of a collaborative production team. The wide range of skills developed on this course are also transferable to many other types of multimedia production, including lighting for photography and video as well as studio recording for music and radio. Students will undertake a vast range of production management tasks over the two year course, supporting these with written log books and theoretical evaluations. Units of study include Assistant Stage Management, Stage Lighting Operations, Sound Operations for the Stage and Special Effects. Please note that there will be an expectation that students will work as part of a technical production team during some weekends and evenings in the run up to Academy productions.

Entry requirements

A keen interest in working backstage on Academy productions and Maths or English GCSE at grade 4 or above.
