Childcare (BTEC) Level 3 at The Ridings Federation Winterbourne International Academy
Who is the course for?
Students who know they want to work in a childcare setting. Successful completion of this course confers vocational competence, or a “licence to practice” in childcare. The course requires a very focussed and positive approach from students as academic study is supported by at least two days each week in placement. Students must be able to move maturely between the workplace and the Academy, working with a range of adults other than teachers as well as young children, throughout the two years of the course.
What will I be studying?
Eleven units of work over two years, plus a work experience placement in a childcare setting (which will be arranged by Academy staff). The units include child development, play in early years settings, children’s development and health needs, health and safety and working with parents and colleagues in early years settings.
These units are also delivered to students following the Level 3 Award in Children’s Play, Learning and Development. Students following the Level 3 Certificate will also study children’s communication and languages, personal social and emotional development, child protection, diversity and equality, and reflect on their own practice.
