Sociology requires students to take a more critical and informed approach to the society in which they live. For example, studies on education will involve looking quite deeply into the educational system in which they are currently part of.

Similarly, lessons on the family unit will require students to consider their own experiences as part of a family. Students will need to be prepared to be more critical and evaluative of many of the things which they may see as common sense or take for granted.

The exams also require a series of, often developed written responses so reasonable English skills and a commitment to practising writing in timed conditions are both crucial.
