French A level at St Robert of Newminster Roman Catholic School
If you have a desire to work in the languages field then this may be the course for
you. Studying a Modern Language will give you an insight into life in other
countries and even continents, as well as that necessary edge when it comes to
competition for jobs in the world of work.
GCSE Grade B.
How will I be assessed?
AS will not count towards the A Level result. A Level is a two year linear course. All exams will take place at the end of year 2. AS and A Level feature two written exams and a speaking test. A Level includes an independent research topic for speaking. You will do translations in and out of the language. A Level students will study at least one book, plus a film or second book. AS students can study a book or a film.
How will I be taught?
The course has been designed to give you a profound understanding of your chosen language. You will know more about the mechanics of the language, like grammar and vocabulary, but also about how people live and use language on a daily basis. You will also gain a lasting appreciation of language and learning.
What skills will I develop?
A good working knowledge of at least one Modern Foreign Language is a huge advantage in a wide range of careers, particularly at this time, when as a nation, we have fewer and fewer graduates with this skill. It complements most other A ‐ Level subjects.
