OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma in IT at Southmoor Academy

Course description

The Cambridge Technical Diploma in IT is equivalent to two A levels. Learners will be able to develop the core knowledge, skills and understanding required by the IT sector and develop further skills by completing a range of units through a choice of these specialist pathways: IT infrastructure Technician, Emerging Digital Technology Practitioner, Application Developer, Data Analyst.

 

Course content

Three Externally examined units:

  • Fundamentals of IT
  • Global Information
  • Cyber Security

A choice of eight further units which are centre assessed and will make up a specialst endorsed pathway.

Entry requirements

Students are required to ahve the standard Sixth Form entry requirements [5 A* - C grades including English and Maths]. You do not need to have studied ICT at GCSE.

Future opportunities

Achievement of this qualification can provide students with the opportunity to enter a Level 4 apprenticeship, move directly into employment, or progress to Higher Education. It may lead onto careers such as Network Engineer, Software Developer or into employment in the IT sector in areas such as technical support, digital technologies, appication development or data analysis.

    • The Sixth Form at Southmoor is housed in a dedicated wing of Southmoor Academyl, completely refurbished and redesigned for our first intake in September 2014. Sixth formers enjoy their own café, open from 8.00am every morning and manned by our very own team of student Baristas, as well as study areas, a resource room, a computer suite, and classrooms furnished throughout with private study booths. All students have a locker to store their files in, and the newly refurbished toilets are for the exclusive use of Sixth Form students.
