Fitness Services BTEC level 3 National Diploma at Frome Community College

Course description

Two-year full-time qualification for students looking to progress to employment in this sector.

Students must complete ten units – seven mandatory and three optional.


Mandatory units:

Unit 1 

Anatomy and physiology (externally assessed)

Unit 2 

Fitness training and programming for health, sport  and well-being (externally assessed)

Unit 3 

Professional development in the sports industry (internally assessed)

Unit 5 

Application of fitness testing (internally assessed)

Unit 12 

Self-employment in the sports industry (internally assessed)

Unit 13 

Instructing gym-based exercise (internally assessed)

Unit 14 

Exercise and circuit-based physical activity (internally assessed)


Optional units:

Unit 4 

Sports leadership (internally assessed)

Unit 17 

Sports injury management (internally assessed)

Unit 18 

Work experience in active leisure (internally assessed)


Entry requirements

5 GCSE grades A* - C including English and/or maths
