Critical Thinking at The Pingle School
What will I learn on this course?
Critical Thinking is a new skills-based subject that assesses and develops arguments. It involves three central skills that we use in our everyday lives:
Understanding what an argument is claiming.
Assessing if an argument works.
Constructing an effective argument on your own.
Using these skills we examine arguments, media and events from across the world to gain a fuller and more ‘critical’ understanding of society, international relations and key events and issues.
Critical Thinking is listed as one of the ‘enrichment’ options. However, unlike the other options, Critical Thinking represents a ‘stand-alone’ subject – and one where you will get an AS level at the end of it.
How will I be assessed?
Two examinations both sat in the summer term.
Due to the challenging nature of this subject it is expected that students will have gained A*-B grades in most of their GCSE examinations with a requirement to have at least a grade C in English and maths.
