Course description

If you love performing or wish to learn more about or workin the performing arts- yes! This course allows studentsfrequent opportunities to perform original devised work andrepertoire and improve technique in each of the art forms-Drama, Dance and Music. It is highly vocational and willbegin to train students for a career in the Music or TheatreIndustry. The course develops qualities of imagination,sensitivity and artistic knowledge. The study of specificpractitioners and rehearsal technique introduces studentsto the commercial, cultural, social and historical contexts inwhich the performing arts operate and each section of thecourse offers the opportunity for reflection, evaluation anddevelopment.

This course offers a choice of following either the Music or Performing Arts pathway. The Music course includes organising a large scale music event and those taking the Performing Arts strand will be involved in the staging ofa Musical. Previous recent musicals have included LesMisérables School Edition (March 2012) and Sweeney Toddat the Barnfield Theatre (March 2013). A number of otherperformances including recitals for Music students will takeplace throughout the course and in year one, students havethe opportunity to research in depth the work of a practitioneror artistic development of their choice.

Entry requirements

A GCSE grade C in Dance, Drama or Music is desirable but not essential; however you should have some performance experience in at least one of the art forms. Music studentswould benefi t from achieving at least a B grade at GCSE Music. You do NOT have to be skilled in all the art forms as the course is concerned with the development of skills. Thiscourse is not suitable for students who have no background in, or aptitude for the arts.
