NATIONAL AWARD IN CHILDREN'S PLAY AND DEVELOPMENT at Royds School
You will learn a range of skills and topics including Theories of Child Development, Health & Safety, Development milestones for Child Progress, Caring for Children, Nutrition and many more.
You will learn how to develop research and evaluative skills. You will gain invaluable vocational experience and an insight into many aspects of topics that are relevant to jobs in the Childcare sector.
During Year 12, you will study Unit 1 Child Development which covers all the developmental areas of children from - 0 - 8. You will also study Unit 2 which is about the development of a child through play.
Double Award - In Year 13 you will be required to undertake a minimum of 50 hours' work placement in an early years setting to ensure development of practical skills and experience of working with children. In addiition you will be required to study a further 3 core units covering Health & Safety, Safeguarding and planning plus a choice of one optional unit which covers support for Chiild Learning.
5 GCSE's at Grade 4 or above. (Health & Social Care at 5/M if studied and 4 in English).
There will be one mandatory examined unit which is externally marked, the rest of the course is assessed through coursework and is internally and externally assessed by a visiting moderator.
These qualifications can provide learner's opportunities to progress to an academic route by studying this qualification alongside Psychology, Sociology or Health & Social Care or more specialised vocational pathways and support progression into employment to become Teachers, Nursery Nurses, Nannies and Nursery Managers.
