French A Level at La Retraite Roman Catholic Girls' School
An A Level in French develops an understanding of the language and encourages students to communicate confidently in both the spoken and written word. The topics studied in year 12 are Media, Popular Culture, Healthy Living and Family/Relationships. Topics covered in year 13 include Environment, The Multicultural Society, and Contemporary Social Issues. Furthermore in year 13, there are two cultural topics such as the study of a region or country and the study of a film, novels or play. Through subject content, students develop an understanding of the contemporary society, cultural background and heritage of the French-speaking world.
A Level Qualification:
- Paper 1: Listening, reading and writing (50%)
- Paper 2: Writing (20%)
- Paper 3: Speaking (30%)
Relevant degrees include: French, Translating and Interpreting, Linguistics, Joint honours with Law and International Relations.
Relevant careers include: Translating, teaching, international, development and journalism.
