IT L3 Extended Diploma at Bishop Auckland College

Course description

The units in this course offer students the opportunity to learn the essential knowledge, skills and understanding to progress into a specific area of the IT industry. All three main areas of the IT industry are covered by a mix of units. The qualification is designed to support employability and progression to university.

Course content

This full time course is taught over 3 days per week for two years. Topics covered include: Communicating in the IT Industry Business Operations Ecommerce Installing computer hardware and software IT Networks IT Security Technical Support Web design, development and customisation Programming Digital Images. Units are taught in class with a mixture of written and practical activities and assessment is via assignments and portfolios. Work experience will be included as part of this course.

Future opportunities

The course will help you achieve the BTEC 90 Credit Diploma in IT at the end of year 1 and the BTEC Extended Diploma in IT at the end of year 2. This is equivalent to 3 A levels at A*- C grade and is awarded the same UCAS points. It will help you to develop skills and employment opportunities and the ability to progress onto a university degree course at the end of year 2.

Progression internally depending upon achievement, attendance and motivation. Employment opportunities include Website Designer, Games Designer, Graphics Design, Database Designer, Software Design, Programmer, IT Technician, IT Customer Support, Network Developer, System Design, System Analysis and System Support.
