Course description

If you have a creative mind, a genuine interest in an ever changing, fast moving and continually developing design industry, then this is the course for you. This course is an introduction to visual communication through text and images, including advertising, packaging, typography and graphic products. You will have opportunities to develop skills in computer graphics-CAD and computer aided manufacture-CAM. You will be encouraged to design and communicate ideas through sketching and modelling. This course will give you the analytical, creative and technical skills necessary to develop your design capability. Finally you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to undertake and manage a design and make project at the end of the two year course. There are two tiers of entry: High Tier -Grades A*- D Foundation Tier - Grades C - G Coursework - 60% (Design and make project) Terminal Examination40% (1½ hour written paper)

Future opportunities

You could take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in Design and Technology or you may need to strengthen your grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, you could go into a job related to Design and Technology and Electronics such as an Technician, Electrician or Design Engineer. You could also go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of your employer.
