Course description

Why study Psychology?

  • By studying dreams, can we improve mental health?
  • Can we change memories of an incident by using a single word
  • Is it right to use pschycological theory to manage the behaviour of children?

Course content

Year 12

Unit 1: From Past to Present

  • Study of the five approaches in psychology, therapies and classical extracts of research evidence.

Unit 2: Investigating Behaviour

  • Pschyological Research is at the centre of this unit, from early planning, interpretation and evaluation. It requires students to undertake individual research.

Year 13

Unit 3: Implications in The Real World

  • How has Psychology been used to understand and treat irregular behaviour patterns.

Unit 4: Applied Research Methods

  • This Unit focuses on practical work undertaken whilst studying Psychology along with dealing new scenarios.

Entry requirements

This course will be new to students and there is no expectiation of prior learning in order to access the course. However, a firm Mathematical and Scientific knowledge is needed and the ability to express a clear opinion. A positive approach to learning is essential as there will be a number of new concepts studied that will be unfarmiliar which will require background reading.

Assessment

Unit 1:

  • 20% of A Level
  • Written examination: 1 hour 30 minutes

Unit 2:

  • 20% of A Level
  • Written examination: 1 hour 30 minutes

Unit 3:

  • 40% of A Level
  • Written examination: 1 hour 30 minutes

Unit 4:

  • 20% of A Level
  • Written examination: 2 hours 30 minutes
