Childcare Apprenticeship Level 2 at Isle of Wight College

Course description

This course is for anyone seeking employment in the field of Childcare. The course includes both theory and practical skills which are put into practice in the workplace.

Course content

The Apprenticeship Framework in Childcare will give you the skills and knowledge that you will need to build a career within a Nursery/School or Childcare setting.

The Intermediate Apprenticeship Framework includes the following:

  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Childcare: Early Years Education and Care (EYE)/ Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (STLS)
  • Level 1 Functional Skills in Numeracy and Literacy (STLS) or GCSE if completing the EYE
  • ERR (Employment Rights and Responsibilities)
  • PLTS (Personal Learning and Thinking Skills)

Entry requirements

C and above in Maths and English or equivalent or ability to gain Level 1 Functional Skills or a GCSE in either English or Maths.


You will attend The Isle Of Wight College on bi-weekly/monthly basis for the underpinning knowledge, Functional Skills and some practical input. You will also be assessed and reviewed approx every 4-6 weeks in the workplace by a member of our team.

Future opportunities

Once you complete this qualification you may be able to progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship or move into full time employment.

Many employers will tend to keep their Apprentices on after they complete their Apprenticeship but permanent employment is not guaranteed after learners complete their apprenticeship.
