Art GCSE at Tomlinscote School and Sixth Form College
During years 10 and 11 students will be required to complete three coursework projects (60% of final grade) and one terminal examination project (40% of final grade) in accordance with the OCR syllabus. The final piece of work for the terminal examination must be completed under examination conditions over a period of 10hrs. The work that the students produce during this period is designed to build on the knowledge, skills and understanding established by the National Curriculum at KS3. Students will be encouraged to develop: an awareness of cultural heritage, cultural differences and personal preferences through traditional or contemporary response. creative and imaginative powers, and the practical skills for communicating and expressing ideas, feelings and meanings in art, craft and design. investigative, analytical, experimental and interpretative capabilities, aesthetic understanding and critical skills. an understanding of codes and conventions of art, craft and design and an awareness of contexts in which they operate. knowledge and understanding of art, craft and design in contemporary societies and in other times and cultures. Students will be required to demonstrate achievement through response to all four assessment objectives listed below: Assessment Objective 1 (AO1) Record observations, experiences and ideas in forms that are appropriate to intentions. Assessment Objective 2 (AO2) Analyse and evaluate images, objects and artefacts showing understanding of context. Assessment Objective 3 (AO3) Develop and explore ideas using media, processes and resources, reviewing, modifying and refining work as it progresses. Assessment Objective 4 (AO4) Present a personal response, realising intentions and making informed connections with the work of others. Students will also have the opportunity to further extend their knowledge and understanding by visiting a London Gallery - Tate Modern, Tate Britain or the National Gallery.
