Course description

WHAT DOES THE SUBJECT INCLUDE?

The Diploma will provide you with the opportunity to gain foundation knowledge and understanding in sports and fitness. Practical sessions form an important aspect of the course enabling you to develop skills that are needed to work in leisure centres, sports retail outlets and activity centres.

WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE?

The course is made up of 60 credits over 1 year, with units being valued at either 5 or 10 credits. Each of which is assessed by a range of methods including written assessments, role play, presentations and practical activities.

IS THIS COURSE FOR ME?

If you have an interest in sport and are hoping to pursue a career in one of the many sport, leisure or recreation related areas but do not have enough GCSE’s to get onto the Level 3 programme then this is the course for you.

Entry requirements

WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?

4 GCSE’s at D grade (or 4 GCSE’s at Grade 3 or above on new GCSE grading system) or a Level 1 Sports (or other relevant Level 1 qualification) at pass grade. Students are required to be self-motivated, disciplined and to take a degree of responsibility for their own learning.

Financial information

ARE THERE ANY EXTRA COSTS?

All sports students not doing a scholarship are required to pay a compulsory £30 for an additional Sports Leaders qualification. On enrolment students are asked to make a contribution of £25 towards the compulsory induction trip which contains exciting activities in a nearby city. Scholarship students will contribute towards their kit and fitness/club fees.

Future opportunities

Successful completion provides the opportunity to gain the equivalent of 4 GCSE’s at Grade C or above which can lead students onto a Level 3 Extended Diploma course or employment within the Sport, Leisure and Recreation sectors.
