Creative Media Production - BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (90 Credit Diploma Route) at Harrow College

Course description

The BTEC Extended Diploma in Media provides the knowledge, understanding and skills for learners wishing to enter a career in the media or progress to the HND within the college or to University courses. It is for people who are able to make a commitment to developing creative, technical, organisational and analytical skills to become competent in video and multimedia production.

Course content

You will analyse various media products including television and film production as well as learn about professional practice in the industry. However, the main focus of the course is practical video production skills along with some units which develop multimedia practice. This will include music video production, documentary, and camer handling techniques.

In practical workshops, practical group sessions and classroom lessons.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs grades A-C including English or Merit in a Level 2 BTEC qualification (plus A-C in English), plus proven interest in Media.

Assessment

The course is 100% coursework. Over the two years you will be assessed in a range of units through both written coursework and your practical Media products.

Future opportunities

Work with a media company, particularly video and television production, the ability to set up and manage your own video production company or a University media degree or other higher education qualification.

Some recommended books, access to a DVD player, TV and PC at home.

Additional costs:

Cost of Digital tapes and discs for video and audio projects. Students will also need to cover some costs of colour printing. There is a levy to cover Media trips.
