Painting and Decorating at Grimsby Institute

Course description

As a Painter & Decorator you have the responsibility for the painting and decorating of buildings to improve its appearance or to protect it from damage by water, rust, corrosion and mould.

This work could also include new buildings, the maintenance, refurbishment or  renovation work of old buildings and can fall into public funded projects or private work. Painting and Decorating make a huge contribution to the Construction industry all around the UK.

The number of houses being built is set to rise by 20.2% by 2018 so the demand for Construction Industry Tradesmen is currently very high so you can look forward to a long  and rewarding career in this industry.

Course content

These courses include learning about different methods of painting surfaces as well as methods of applying paper and producing specialist finishes, using paint systems using High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) spray equipment and erecting and using working platforms.


Learners will have the chance to undertake work experience.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual's previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process.

The following list offers a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry on to a particular level of a course.

Entry Level 3 Programmes

No formal entry qualifications but subject to approval from the Foundation Learning Assessment Team.
 

Level 1 Programmes

GCSEs grade E to G or equivalent, including Foundation Awards and Entry Level Certificates.
 

Level 2 Programmes

Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D or above including Maths and English language OR Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D or above including Maths and English language and relevant subject qualification OR Minimum of Level 1 course in chosen subject at merit or above and English language and Maths at Level 1.
 

Level 3 Programmes

Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C or above including Maths and English language OR Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C or above including Maths and English language and relevant subject qualification OR Minimum of Level 2 course in chosen subject at merit or above and English language and Maths at level 2.

Future opportunities

Successful students may progress to the Diploma in Painting and Decorating Level 2.
