Course description

There are 3 options available for the BTEC Sport: 1. Certificate in Sport– 1 year course, equivalent to an AS level. 2. Extended Certificate in Sport – 2 year course equivalent to an A2. 3. Diploma in Sport – 2 year course equivalent to 2 A’ levels. This counts as 2 of your option choices. The BTEC Level 3 Certificate offers a specialist qualification that focuses on particular aspects of employment within the appropriate vocational sector. The BTEC Level 3 Certificate is a qualification which can extend a student’s programme of study and give vocational emphasis.

The BTEC Level 3 Certificate is broadly equivalent to one GCE AS Level and the following units will be studied in the first year: • Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport • Practical Sports Performance

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate extends the specialist work-related focus of the BTEC Level 3 Certificate and covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in the appropriate vocational sector. It is broadly equivalent to one GCE A Level.

After completing the above units of study, students will move on to study the following units in their second year of the course: • Professional Development in the Sports Industry • Fitness Training and Programme for Health, Sport and Well-being. • One optional Unit

The BTEC Diploma in Sport takes 2 years. Students will study the above Units plus: • Sports Leadership • Investigating Business in Sport and Leisure • Acquiring Skill in Sport • 3 optional Units

Entry requirements

You should have four GCSEs grades A*- C. You do not need to have studied Physical Education or Sport before, but this course does require a more “outgoing” personality and a passion for sport

Assessment

All assessment for the BTEC qualifications are based on the achievement of specified learning outcomes. Each unit within the qualification has specified assessment and grading criteria which are to be used for grading purposes. A summative unit grade can be awarded at pass, merit or distinction
