Course content

There are two mandatory units:

  1. Employability and Communication skills for IT
  2. Computer Systems

 

Four further units of study are then taught looking at a range of IT Skills including Photography, Digital imaging, Video production, Music Production, Animation, Programming and Systems building. This course is broadly equivalent to one A Level and is based on 100% coursework.

Assessment

All coursework will be assessed internally by class teachers with some work being sent to moderation by Edexcel. To achieve a grade Students must complete the entire 6 unit portfolio at grade Pass or above.

Career opportunities

The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in IT leads well in to Higher National Diplomas or Degree courses at University. Due to the diverse nature of the course many different areas of IT are accessible post sixth form. During the course many Students find a subject they become passionate about and pursue this at a higher level in University.

Entry Requirement

Students do not need to have studied IT at Level 2 although this will give them a distinct advantage in this course. A grade C in Maths and English Language are required to access course content.
